The Welcome Center official opened its doors to the public April 1, 2009. Located just off the 218 interchange to Nashua, Iowa the center provides a rest stop for travelers and a Federal Emergency Management Agency-approved storm shelter in the basement. The center, which is designed to resemble the old Nashua depot, was built through a combination of grants and private funding.
A Gamewell-FCI Flex Series 10 zone fire alarm system was installed with an annunciator in the main level, pull stations and smoke detection through out the building. Providing elevator recall and duct detection as well.
